Hello! My name is Regan Rhymes. I'm a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where my work explored how media systems and technology shape everyday human experiences, from AI surveillance in schools to language accessibility in health care settings.
Most of my work lives in the audio world, through projects with Carolina Connection, UNC Media Hub and The Durham Voice, I've reported and produced longform stories centered on public policy, ethics and lived experience. Along the way, I've also found myself drawn to UX/UI design, audience engagement and interpretation research. I tend to question how people interact with systems that are meant to inform or protect them.
Outside of journalism, I'm endlessly fascinated by storytelling in all its forms. I was named after Regan MacNeil from The Exorcist, which feels fitting considering my lifelong love of horror movies. I'm equally intrigued by reality television, editing choices and the subtle ways media builds tension and audience connection. A lot of that inspiration quietly finds its way back into the way I approach reporting and narrative structure.
I'm currently continuing my training in Spanish interpretation with particular interests in accessibility and cross cultural storytelling. One of the most rewarding parts of the process has been learning how language can expand trust and connection across different audiences and experiences.
And yes — Rhymes is my real last name! It sounds a little too perfect for someone pursuing writing, but I promise I didn't make it up.
